of HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY (= Hyperbaric Diving Medicine)
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBO, is a type of therapy that uses high concentrations of oxygen, at pressures up to 2 and 3 times higher than atmospheric pressure (=1 bar), to treat and manage various diseases and injuries, mainly, but not exclusively, in the fields of pathology and surgery, accelerating significantly the cure/healing of these diseases/injuries.
The additional amount of oxygen provided, through the blood, promotes healing as it helps fight bacteria and at the same time activates the release of growth factors and stem cells, a fact that restores adequate tissue oxygenation and restores normal body function.
